The Olympics: Intercultural Sports Arena

The whole world comes together…

Or, at the very least, it’s prized athletes do.

The Olympics are international sporting events that occur every two years alternating between summer and winter seasons. Inspired by the ancient sporting events in Greece, the International Olympic Committee was formed in 1894 with the first set of games occurring in 1896. Over the next century, nearly every aspect of the games has been amplified and endured through media coverage, athlete-celebrity status, World Wars, scandals, controversies, geopolitical changes, social movements, terrorist attacks and global pandemics.

With that said: does the world actually come together?

When I think about the Olympics, I think about my Grandma’s love for the event. She used to make donations to the Team USA Federation with a spirit of global connection. Maybe we can’t agree on everything, but that doesn’t mean we can’t play together in the (very expensive) sandbox.

What are your thoughts on the Olympics? Let me know in the comments!
