Sports in Communication Contexts

How are sports impacted by intercultural communication contexts?

Environmental
Various environmental factors, such as climate, seasons, topography and wildlife have impacted what’s available for activities. Nowadays, indoor arenas create spaces for many sports no matter where they take place geographically.

Social
Sports bring people together in more ways than just competition. Communication is inevitable to establish rules, scores and playing terms, and in many instances, sports are viewed as a hobby or ways to create relationships.

Temporal
The ability to play and practice a sport are dictated by time availability. How frequently can you dedicate to the sport? In addition, after school sports, intramural and work teams are prevalent to solidify interpersonal relationships.

Physical
What needs to be available to play sports? Do you need to possess certain skills such as strength, agility, flexibility, balance or speed? Or do you need special equipment?

Psychological
Sports are just as psychological as they are physical. Focus, determination, patience, quick proaction and reaction are all necessary to compete.
