How to Plan a Multi-City and Multi-Country Trip
“I’m going to spend two weeks in Italy and Greece!”
That’s what someone told me recently as part of their honeymoon plan. Two weeks? Italy AND Greece??
I asked what the plan was: what places were they staying, what were the “musts,” and how were they traveling around from place to place?
Cue the crickets!
I get it. (Trust me, -I get it.-) Multi-city and multi-country trips are totally possible and feasible, but they require coordination in order to avoid downtime. Here are three huge tips:
1. Decide where you are staying overnight. Consider stays that have the most nearby sites to reduce travel time. You might want to think about smaller, sleepier towns that offer unique and less expensive lodging. 2. Calculate the distance between your stays. What mode of transportation are you using? What makes the most sense pricewise? Understand that travel time is not productive time. What will you be losing?
3. Create two sightseeing/activity lists. One list is “must” and the other list is “possible.” Purchasing tickets and reserve a spot ahead of time for your “must” and keep your “possible” list available for free time.
If you make travel a priority in your life, you won’t feel out of control when it comes to planning, and there isn’t an urgency to “see it all” in one trip.
