Preliminary Questionnaire for Students Who Are Considering Study Abroad

Here are a list of questions that I compiled as part of my Master’s thesis to identify core reason and purpose for a student’s desire to study abroad. In addition, how can an advisor best place the student in a program that suits their studies and learning abilities? 

1. What is the student’s major course of study? 

2. How can the student compliment their studies by going abroad? 

3. What are the options available vis-à-vis the home university? 

a. Does the university have strategic partnerships? 

b. Is the university part of a study abroad consortium?

c. Does the university rely on independent programs? 

4. How much engagement does the student have with a home university study abroad coordinator and an educational adviser? 

5. Does the student have one particular country of interest? If not, is the student willing to go anywhere or have preferences? 

6. Does the student have one particular choice of engagement (studies, internship, etc.)? 

7. What are the student’s main reasons for study abroad?
